7 Things I Learned Living From My Car For One Year
June marks one year since I moved into my Subaru Outback.
I made the move for many reasons. But chiefly because I’d grown tired of packing and unpacking for camping trips. I wanted to spend most of my time exploring, so I decided to limit the barriers to entry.
Craving freedom and flexibility, I was burnt out on paying rent because it made me feel like I always had to return home. At the time, I’d spent nearly four of the past six months on the road traveling. I just decided to do it full-time.
Here are my reflections after one year of living from my car full-time.
Perhaps they’ll inspire you to do the same thing. Provide an answer to some questions you may have. Or maybe just offer a fresh perspective on your own life.
1. It’s not hard to find a shower.
My top choice is in a river or lake. There’s nothing better than stripping down in the wild and skinny dipping for a bath.
When that’s not an option, stashed inside my vehicle I have a portable shower and a pop-up privacy tent that I could use. I also have multiple dromedary bags that I could hang on the back of my car.
